24/11/08 JBT AeroTech Selects Autostore for US$5m automation contract
JBT Corporation is a leading global technology solutions provider to the food processing and air transportation industries employing over 3,000 people worldwide. Subsidiary JBT AeroTech has selected Autostore to control all aspects of warehouse automation as part of a US$5 million contract to upgrade the supply chain infrastructure for a major Australian paper and packaging company.
The warehouse upgrade includes 11 robotic vehicles for automatically storing and retrieving paper rolls and will be commissioned in 2009. JBT's automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) will also load paper rolls directly onto trucks and into overseas containers for shipment. JBT Corporation's innovative trailer loading technology automatically loads pallets, racks, or rolls into standard, over-the-road trailers or overseas shipping containers. Forming the software backbone of JBT's solution, Autostore will provide the Warehouse Control System as well as Conveyor Control and Load Planning modules.
"We see increasing interest in both warehouse automation and automatic trailer loading as industry leaders look to improve operational efficiency beyond their traditional manufacturing equipment," said John Lee, Vice President and Division Manager of JBT AeroTech. "After a very thorough evaluation of different automation technologies and suppliers, we are proud that our AGV technology was chosen as delivering the greatest value."
Andrew McKaig, Commercial Director at Central Systems & Automation, said: "This is another significant win for Autostore and it opens up the Asia Pacific market for us. Autostore is already a proven international warehouse management and control system for blue chip customers across the UK, Europe and Middle East that delivers superior efficiency, profitability and competitive edge. We're delighted to be adding a significant Autostore new site in a significant new market."
