Autostore is the solution of choice for port customers across the UK, Europe and the Baltic, internationally proven to raise cargo throughput, decrease costs and increase profitability. Szczecin is Poland's third largest port, located 40 miles (65km) inland from the Baltic Sea on the River Oder and handled nearly 10 million tons of mixed cargo in 2007.
A spokesman for DB Port Szczecin said: "Autostore is a strategic business investment for us: it will give us the real-time operational control and flexible cargo management capability we need to help expand Szczecin's position as the commercial gateway to the Baltic. The right software infrastructure is critically important for simplifying, optimising, integrating and tuning port operations for today's tough market demands - Autostore has an established record in delivering these benefits alongside improved profitability and true competitive edge.
"With real-time oversight and digital control of every aspect of our container, storage and resourcing operations, we're using technology to help drive productivity and profitability while enabling us to capitalise on the emerging opportunities within post-recession Europe," he finished.
Andrew McKaig, commercial director at Central Systems & Automation Ltd, said: "Confidence is key: enterprise intermodal and supply chain systems must work from day one, delivering against the specification and being able to handle the unexpected too. Autostore has a significant European community of users who have exactly that level of confidence. The software is web-enabled for fast, secure customer communication and is as easy to use in the boardroom as it is in the crane cab, gatehouse or warehouse. It will create operational efficiencies right across the port estate and play a key role in DB Port Szczecin's business development plans."
DB Port Szczecin is a key international hub on the main transport route from Scandinavia to Central and Southern Europe. It serves as an international hub for sea, land and river transportation along major transport routes into Poland and neighbouring countries plus is the primary hinterland port for Berlin with liner services into Benelux, Germany, Finland and West Africa. Processing a wide range of containerised, general, heavy load, break-bulk and bulk cargo, DB Port Szczecin is also Poland's biggest handler for granite imports from Brazil, South Africa, India and China.
