The Autostore Voice Picking Module (VPM) allows Autostore WMS users to maximise the benefits of real-time, hands-free and eyes-free interaction with the system. It generates major performance benefits, especially in terms of accuracy and productivity.
Voice systems use speech recognition and speech synthesis to allow operators to communicate with the system using normal speech. Workers use a wireless, wearable computer with a headset and microphone that links to the server via a wireless RF network. For example with voice directed picking, the order picker is instructed by voice - via the headset - what to pick and where to pick it. They then verbally confirm their actions back to the system through the mike.
The most common application is Order Picking where greater accuracy and productivity offer a rapid return on investment. It can also be used across other operational areas and activities such as Receiving, Put-away, Replenishment, Stock Checking and Picking. Perpetual Inventory checking can also be combined with other tasks.
